Your hard water is damaging your hair
Hey love!
Recently I took a poll on my Instagram to see how aware you are of the affects that hard water has on your hair, skin and overall health! I was shocked to see over 50% of you were unsure of how and if hard water was affecting you. Grab your latte and let’s break it down
What is hard water?
Hard water is high in dissolved minerals, magnesium and calcium. These are not necessarily harmful for you, but you will often see a difference in your hair and skin. This abundance of minerals can leave film like build up on your hair and skin. This will prevent your hair from receiving the proper amount of moisture and can often make it more prone to breakage. You may also suffer from a dry scalp, frizziness and hair that easily tangles. Hard water build up can prevent your hair from lifting when lightening and strip out your color post appointment. If you think you may have hard water, check your sink or shower for residue build up. You may also feel your skin is dry, itchy and dull.
How can you prevent this ?
A simple and cost efficient solution, is to install a shower filter. Soft water shower filters are filled with carbon to help combat the mineral deposit in your water. I recommend researching which filter will work best for you, but there are several convenient options on Amazon. Other solutions include: in salon professional treatments (I do offer these upon request!) and professional grade clarifying shampoos.
What can you do to prepare your hair for color when you have hard water?
Let me or your stylist know before your appointment! Appointment timing can be extended to include a hard water removal treatment. Your stylist may also recommend a clarifying shampoo and conditioning treatment pre appointment!
